For Plaasjapie, I worked as Post-Production Coordinator as well as one of the Offline Editors and the Online Editor. I was part of a team of four editors and one assistant editor, and was responsible for helping manage a highly parallel workflow where multiple episodes were in progress at the same time.
The nature of the series required close coordination across the team to ensure storylines remained consistent across episodes, as well as clear communication between editors and departments. As this was the first season of a reality format, a significant part of the work involved establishing and refining the show’s structure, style, and editorial approach in real time, in collaboration with the wider production team.
As a reality series, one of the main challenges on Plaasjapie was managing a large volume of incoming media while maintaining a structured, reliable workflow for ingest, organisation, and retrieval throughout the edit process.
Additional complexity came from extensive open-mic audio, which required careful attention to sync, clarity, and usability in the edit. Working with unscripted material also meant adapting to unpredictable situations and handling sensitive real-life moments with care, ensuring editorial decisions remained respectful while still serving the needs of the narrative.
